Fear of injections is one of the common and common fears that can be seen among the clients of medical and dental centers. This feeling, combined with the fear of facing the dentist, can prevent many people from getting necessary treatments. In new research on this issue, researchers from Brazil and the United States are trying to test a method to increase the effectiveness of anesthetic drugs used by dentists.
This research has been done with the hope of reducing discomfort caused by injections for patients and continues with the aim of ensuring the favorable effect of anesthetic drugs on the oral mucosa.
During this research, which was carried out in collaboration with the research groups of Texas Tech University (TTU) and the School of Dentistry of Piracicaba, Brazil, a small microneedle device containing 57 needles was used. When this device is placed in the gingival area, lips or anywhere in the mouth that is exposed to the anesthetic, small holes are created through which the anesthetic penetrates deeper into the mentioned areas. do According to Dr. Singh Gill, the head of this research team, the usual and common methods of local anesthesia cannot fully and satisfactorily guarantee the protection of the patient. The importance of the new method is felt more when the treatment requires a deep injection to completely disable the dental nerve. Such a situation can lead to anxiety in patients and jeopardize the result of treatment.
Although the method has only been tested on 10 people to date, the results so far are very positive and promising, according to Dr. Gill. Reducing injection pain is not the only goal of this research, but other important goals, including determining the effectiveness of this system in expanding the area of local anesthesia.
